How to Marry a Filipino? 

The nature of Filipinos is characterized by love, resilience, simplicity, hard work, and attentiveness, especially when it comes to Filipinos themselves. There are foreigners who wish to marry Filipinos due to their admirable qualities, unique culture, and desire to experience it firsthand. If you both have love, understanding, and are not interested in merely having a Filipino boyfriend or girlfriend, then marriage becomes an option. Particularly, this decision is viable if you're both prepared to establish a strong family and, of course, have sufficient savings to cover wedding expenses. 

For Filipinos, marriage is a cherished and valued institution, reserved for those who genuinely love each other, whether they opt for a simple civil ceremony or a grand celebration. As our elders used to say, in the past, eating bananas was acceptable as long as it was sweet and borne out of love. Nonetheless, in today's practical context, every choice should be carefully considered. Selecting a life partner, a companion, an ally, and someone who brings you contentment and inspiration in life is a significant decision. This person supports your aspirations and dreams for your family and loved ones.




For those planning to get married, the following requirements are necessary to apply for a marriage license: 

 For Both Filipinos:

 A. Above 26 years old:
  • Original Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR) - Obtainable from PSA
  • Photocopy of PSA Birth Certificate 
  • Photocopy of 2 Valid IDs with specimen signatures. 

B. Below 26 years old:

  •  Original Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR) - Obtainable from PSA
  •  Photocopy of PSA Birth Certificate
  •  Photocopy of 2 Valid IDs with specimen signatures.
  •  Affidavit of parental/guardian consent Photocopy of Parent/Guardian's ID with signature
  •  Certificate of Marriage Counseling/Seminar from Barangay

 For Foreigners: 

  • Legal capacity or Affidavit of Marriage (depending on the country's requirements)
  • Photocopy of Passport with specimen signature 
  • Divorce papers if applicable
  • Photocopy of arrival stamp in the Philippines from the passport. 

 Process:

  • When the requirements are complete, the couple must personally visit the Local Civil Registrar (LCR) of the city to file for the marriage license. 
  • Complete a Marriage Application Form and submit it to the LCR authority. 
  • Wait for the designated date of marriage license issuance.
  • Once you have the marriage license, approach the officiant who will perform the marriage ceremony, whether it's a judge for a civil marriage or a minister for a church wedding. 
  • Provide witnesses or principal sponsors, and at least 4 pairs who are not related to each other. 
  • After the marriage, register the marriage certificate with the LCR and await its release. 

 Notes: 

  • The marriage certificate provided by the officiant must be registered within 15 working days. 
  • The Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR) is valid for 6 months.
  • The marriage license's expiry date is indicated on the license copy.
